VOTE MINA RIZK FOR SOPHMORE SENATOR
Attending a school in a rural setting like Middlebury can sometimes feel isolating—but it doesn’t have to be. That’s why as Senator, I will work to establish a students-only bus service connecting Middlebury to key destinations in Burlington, including Target, Chipotle, and Dave’s Hot Chicken.
While Hannaford and Shaw’s cover the basics, they can’t always meet every student’s needs. My bus service would offer both a convenient mode of transportation to allow students to shop their specific stores as well as provide an opportunity for students to explore Burlington and recharge from academic life.
It goes without saying that the rigor here is tough and that we all have an insane amount of work to do. As such, I want to adjust the library hours on Fridays and Saturdays to remain open longer. I understand the idea of shutting the library earlier so students can indulge in social activities. However, most of the time, that is not the case, we just go somewhere else to do the work. So why waste time moving around?
Not only will this be another convenience for students, it will also allow for more working hours student-employees can take advantage of.
Middlebury is a beautiful town with so much to offer, yet it’s often underappreciated by students swamped with assignments and exams. I plan to bridge the gap between the college and the community by collaborating with local businesses and organizations to host student-focused events. “Study Days” at Little Seed or Haymaker with exclusive discounts, or “Midd Movie Nights” at the local theater will be among the first student activities implemented during my term as Senator.
Beyond entertainment, I want to utilize my platform to prioritize student well-being by partnering with local animal shelters to bring therapy animals to campus during exam season.
With these activities, I aim to enhance the student experience at Middlebury, building a strong, united student body that puts community at the forefront.
